Tamil Nadu is one of the top commercial states of India and is a leading performer in sectors like textiles, automobiles, and electronics. But in some industries such as pharmaceuticals and medical devices, it is still to reach complete potential.
Keeping this in view, the Government of Tamil Nadu is attempting to rectify this situation by proposing to develop a bulk drug park and medical devices park.
Tamil Nadu’s government has proposed setting up a bulk drug park and another park for medical devices near Chennai.
The location of the bulk drug park will be in the Tiruvallur district, and it will cover an area of 2000 acres. The proposed cost of completing this project is about Rs.2153 crore. The park will also follow the regulatory process for the import and export of drugs in India.
The location of the medical device park is proposed to be near Oragadam in Kanchipuram district with a covering area of 350 acres. This is as per the memorandum presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K Palaniswami. The total cost of the project is proposed to be Rs.430 crore.
There will be several common and latest infrastructure facilities such as CETP, warehousing and cold storage, R&D center, steam systems, testing facilities, etc. The state government has decided to offer some attractive incentive packages to those industries that will invest in these proposed parks. It will also be a part of Drug product registration in India.
The proposed project will also play its role in fulfilling Prime Minister Atma Nirbhar Bharat’s vision. The government of Tamil Nadu has made an application to the Department of Pharmaceuticals and Ministry of Chemicals and fertilizers for getting financial assistance of Rs.1000 crore for the proposed bulk drug park under the promotion of Bulk Drug park scheme and Rs.100 crore for the proposed medical device park under “Promotion of Medical device park scheme. It is all stated in the memorandum.
